Joyce Estes - Silk Painting / Oils
Joyce Estes’ love for painting led to opening the first art gallery in Eastpoint, Florida. She filled it with original oils and watercolors, a line of coastal stationary, pen and ink renderings and a cookbook, Seafood the Apalachicola Way.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, she has been the featured artist in solo showings and received many awards. She has studied with five members of the International Society of Marine Painters and illustrated two books about Northwest Florida - the Verle Barnes Portrait of an Estuary and Florida Audubon Society The Young Naturalist’s Guide to Florida. Her work is collected both privately and by corporations throughout North America and Europe. She began publishing her paintings in 1978 and has produced a number of limited edition prints.
Over the last few years, painting on silk has become Joyce’s favorite medium. Dyes on delicate silk allow a freedom of expression with a feeling of elegance and beauty not found with the heavier oils. In 2012, she was elected president of SPIN (Silk Painters International) and currently teaches, hosts and travels to promote the art form. Her own businesses have thrived amidst a hectic schedule of volunteerism, politics, church and activism. Bayside Gallery grew over thirty years to reflect her varied interests, unique personality, and creative energy. In 1996, she added Sea Oats Gallery on St. George Island to cater to visitors. Sea Oats represents many artists, offers workshops, and hosts various events benefiting area non-profit groups. Joyce is available for weekend workshops in your area and to groups locally.
